The Gretna Green BESS is a high-capacity 456MW strategic development designed to enhance national grid stability and secure energy supply for over 100,000 households. The project has secured full planning consent and is designated for direct interconnection with the adjacent substation, ensuring high operational efficiency. The infrastructure will include battery energy storage containers, PCS (inverter-transformer), grid connection infrastructure, access tracks, and safety and security measures, including Security gates and Closed- Circuit Television (CCTV).
Net Zero Target
Developed in direct response to the Climate Emergency declared by the Dumfries and Galloway Council, this project represents a significant commitment to local and national Net Zero targets. By delivering critical low-carbon infrastructure, the facility provides the necessary grid flexibility to support the transition away from fossil fuels and protect the region from the long-term impacts of climate change.
Environmental Integration & Biodiversity Net Gain
The project features a comprehensive landscaping and ecological strategy designed to minimize visual impact and integrate seamlessly into its surroundings. Key environmental highlights include:
-
Visual Mitigation: Generous landscape screening to ensure the development remains sympathetic to the local landscape.
-
Ecological Enhancement: The implementation of specific measures to deliver significant Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), improving local habitats and supporting regional conservation goals.
